7 Considerate Methods to Contribute Positively This Month

Who’s looking forward to Thanksgiving this month? It’s one of my most loved holidays — a time to gather with our families, indulge in scrumptious meals, and reflect on all we are thankful for. This is also an opportune time to extend our gratitude beyond our family table and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Here are some simple yet impactful ways we can give back this season, not just acknowledging our blessings, but also spreading love and appreciation to others.

1. RAISE FUNDS:
Fundraising is an effective way of channeling your resources for causes you believe in. Plan an event to generate funds or kick start a campaign. From selling t-shirts to rallying local restaurants to donate a chunk of their daily sales, there’s an array of philanthropic initiatives you can undertake. Alternatively, feel free to join someone else’s fundraising efforts, say participating in a 5k run or attending a charity event.

2. VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME:
Philanthropy often goes beyond financial contributions. If monetary contributions are a stretch, consider donating your time by volunteering. This gift is profoundly meaningful. From serving food at a homeless shelter, assisting at hospitals, spending time with nursing home residents, or supporting any other community organization, numerous volunteer opportunities await. I’m contemplating volunteering at a local pregnancy center in my vicinity, lending help to young mothers lacking resources. If children are your soft spot, consider volunteering at a foster agency and offer mentorship.

3. LEND A HAND:
This aligns perfectly with volunteering your time and talents. Identify your strengths and apply them in service of a loved one. Mark it on your calendar and make it happen this month. Help your grandparents clean their attic, rake leaves for your in-laws, or assist them with assembling furniture. An unexpected favor could make someone’s day.

4. COOK A MEAL:
Though our bonds with our neighbors may not be what it was once, preparing a meal for someone in need never goes out of style. Brighten a friend or neighbor’s day, who’s been facing challenging times, by delivering a homemade meal. I’ve done this for a church member who just had a baby, the relieved smile on her face is something I’ll hold dear forever. You don’t even have to cook the meal if you prefer to pick up some ready-to-eat food.

5. PARTICIPATE IN A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT:
This is a more substantial way to give back that may call for your time, energy, and skills. My husband and I once helped paint a local restaurant, an activity that provided us with lasting fond memories.

6. OFFER TO BABYSIT:
Consider offering caretaking services to an overwhelmed couple you know. Providing them with a reliable babysitting service can be immensely helpful for them to rejuvenate with a well-deserved break. Dates can be limited to 3-4 hours, plan some engaging activities to keep the kids entertained during this time.

7. DONATE CLOTHES:
Consider donating clothes you no longer need to charitable organizations. This simple gesture can have a profound impact, especially during the colder months.

Therefore, there are countless ways to exhibit kindness and compassion this month and throughout the year. No matter how large or small, your thoughtful act can brighten someone’s day and possibly influence their life more than you know.

So, how are you planning to extend your hand this Thanksgiving season?
