Star Wars has ascended to the throne of box office records with its latest installment, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” This weekend, the film registered a record-breaking opening in movie history, racking up an estimated $238 million in U.S. sales. The Disney (DIS) release, which is the seventh episode in the Star Wars saga, was showcased across 4,134 theaters. Notably, it is the first appearance of fan favorites like Harrison Ford’s Han Solo and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia since 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.” The monumental success of “The Force Awakens” also played a significant role in setting a new overall box office record for the weekend, tallying over $300 million in sales – a first in film history.
