Are Monthly Baby Subscription Boxes Worth Their Cost?

Subscription boxes that arrive monthly are gaining more and more interest. This trend is evident by the number of entrepreneurs promoting their own versions on shows like Shark Tank. In our fast-moving, technology-driven society, the thrill of receiving a package full of surprises in the mail can be quite appealing, particularly for new mothers homebound with their infants.

In my experience as a mother, I was gifted 3 baby subscription boxes from Bluum with my first child and recently started with the 16 Minute Club boxes for my second child. Let me share my thoughts about what I like and dislike about each of these services and their cost-effectiveness.

BLUUM BOXES

Three years ago, I had my initial encounter with Bluum boxes, and since then, the company has certainly grown. They widened their market to include the period from pregnancy to preschool.

To be honest, my first impression of the box was less than enthralled. There were a plethora of samples with little substantial content. However, looking at their current box images, it’s apparent that the company has revamped their offerings to include higher quality products.

Would I spend $29 a month on the box as a gift for others or like to receive it? Yes. Would I buy it for myself? No.

The main deterrent for me is that the boxes are overly focused on books. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate books and constantly read for my girls. However, I find the books they send to be too simplistic for preschoolers, and certainly not something I’d pay full price for. Given the abundance of picture books for babies and toddlers available at discounted rates, getting them through this subscription doesn’t feel cost-efficient.

16 MINUTE CLUB

The 16 Minute Club boxes offer support for breastfeeding, which I believe is invaluable for all new mothers. My first two boxes arrived just in time for my return from the hospital – the first tailored to pregnancy needs and the second for post-natal requirements.

My only subscription box experience prior to this was Bluum, so the amount of content in each 16 Minute Club box was a pleasant surprise. Each box contained a balanced combination of useful advice, various items, and some entertaining products. I was thrilled to find not only sample items, but also full-sized ones along with a baby onesie, bib, toy, and more.

Getting this subscription box as a second-time mom was enjoyable with all the baby and mom surprises it came with. I imagine the box being even more appreciated by first-time moms for the useful resources and reading material it offered. I remember spending countless hours searching the internet for answers as a new mom, and having this box could have saved me from a lot of stress and uncertainty.

Priced at $31 per box, it’s slightly more expensive than Bluum, but considering its content, I believe it provides better value for money.

In conclusion, when it comes to subscription services, keep in mind that some months can be better than others. However, I strongly believe they make thoughtful gifts, especially for new mothers. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a surprising package in their mailbox?

Have you subscribed to any subscription box services? I am curious to hear your experiences and opinions.
