A report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development states that Australian minimum wage workers receive higher remuneration than their counterparts in other developed countries.
Workers in Australia, aged 21 years and above, earn 15.96 Australian dollars per hour, which amounts to $9.54 after accounting for tax deductions and cost of living differences.
Herwig Immervoll, the report’s author from the OECD, noted the unique circumstance of Australians having both a high minimum wage and a relatively low tax burden. He explained how Australians value the importance of aiding low wage earners through their tax system.
