Haley Jones, a 22-year-old from New York, is set to earn big on the most bustling party night of the year. The holiday season is seeing babysitters pocketing huge earnings, inciting strain amongst parents who feel cornered into paying steep prices. The typical rate for Jones isn’t $40-$50, of course.
“Normally, I charge between $17 and $22 per hour, but on that particular night, the rates take a significant jump,” says Jones from her Harlem residence. She promotes her babysitting services on the popular site, UrbanSitter, and points out that some of her colleagues could earn up to $60 per hour.
