Duration of Maternity Leave is Shortening

Modern times see women persisting in their workplaces further into their pregnancy and resuming work significantly sooner post-birth than in previous generations. Statistics from the early 1960s revealed that the majority (65%) of working women, anticipating their first child, ceased employment a month or more prior to childbirth, while only a minor section (35%) continued to work until their last month of pregnancy. However, by the late 2000s, this pattern had totally changed – here, a mere 20% of women chose to step out of work earlier, while a whopping 80% sustained their professional duties up until a month before delivering their first child. Additionally, recent studies by the Pew Research Center depict a sharp increase in women reentering the work sphere swiftly after their first child’s arrival compared to prior times.
