Fast Food Employees Set to Receive $15 Per Hour

New York State is set to gradually increase the minimum wage in the coming years until fast-food worker’s pay reaches $15 per hour. On Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration officially approved this proposal, which the Democratic governor announced at a labor rally, alongside Vice President Joe Biden.

This decision follows a vote by a panel formed by Governor Cuomo in July to raise the base pay for approximately 200,000 fast-food workers in the state to $15 an hour. In a recent op-ed for the New York Times, Cuomo mentioned that the board set up by the state’s labor commission would examine whether the fast-food industry’s minimum wage is adequate to meet the living and health needs of its workers.
