Increased Wages Lead to Success for Seattle Restaurant

A Seattle-based eatery has amped up their menu prices by 21% for the implementation of the new $15 minimum wage for their employees, two years ahead of the planned schedule. The necessity for tips is no longer relevant, and patrons appear to welcome these adjustments readily.

The employees, more than the customers, feel the significant change as their earnings increase by 60 percent than earlier. For instance, a server uses her newfound financial benefit to offset her heightened rent costs, whereas another waitress is finally able to save for accounting classes and indulge in weekend trips with relative ease.

Next, the citywide mandate of Seattle, sanctioned last year due to steadfast advocacy from labor supporters and grassroots campaigners, escalated the city’s minimum wage to $11 since April 1, surpassing Washington state’s nation-leading minimum of $9.47. Depending on the business size and added benefits, there are scheduled boosts that will elevate the minimum wage to $15 within a span of four years for large-scale enterprises and seven years for smaller ones.
