Bernie Sanders, a presidential candidate, has expressed his belief that every employment in America warrants paid leave. The Democratic candidate from Vermont, who is also a senator, has proposed a new bill that would mandate all employers with more than 15 workers to grant two weeks of paid leave to employees who have served for at least one year. This would also extend to part-time workers who average 24 working hours a week, according to the proposed legislation.
Statistics from the Labor Department illustrate that while nearly 87% of full-time civilian workers enjoy paid vacation, only a meager 34% of part-time workers have the same privilege. Similarly, just 39% of workers who earn below $9 per hour receive paid vacations, regardless of their working hours. More details can be found on CNN Money.
