Recall Issued for 42,000 Volkswagen Vehicles

Volkswagen has issued a recall for 42,000 of its vehicles in America due to a potential problem with the airbags. Specific models affected include the Jetta, Passat and Tiguan, produced between the years 2010 and 2014. The problem, as stated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday, is the presence of debris which could pierce a cable that powers the front air bag. This could result in a failure of the airbag to deploy properly. The NHTSA has recorded nine customer complaints related to this, but fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported yet. Volkswagen has reassured customers that they are working on a remedy for the issue, promising to inform owners when it’s ready. In the meantime, the carmaker advises that if the air bag monitoring light comes on, customers should contact a dealer urgently to have their vehicle inspected or fixed.
