Recently, General Motors (GM) declared a product recall for approximately 79,000 Chevy Cobalt models from 2010, spanning the US and Canada. The recall was prompted by flawed wiring, which could potentially inhibit the deployment of the driver’s side airbag installed on the roof after a collision.
In accidents linked to defective ignition switches in these particular vehicles, no less than 124 fatalities occurred and 274 people sustained injuries, as per the compensation fund set up by GM. The families of these victims are being proposed a minimum compensation of $1 million each.
Last year, GM had already initiated a recall of 2.6 million cars of the same model, albeit they confessed to being aware of the switch issues for over a decade.
