Scottrade, a renowned investment company, has recently succumbed to a series of online attacks, leading to a significant data breach. The stock trading firm suffered a massive hack, during which information related to 4.6 million clients was lost. Customers who enrolled for a Scottrade brokerage account before February 2014 were primarily affected.
In the course of the attack, hackers managed to infiltrate a comprehensive database comprising Scottrade’s clientele. The data breach comprised of customer names and their physical addresses. This database also held clients’ email addresses and Social Security numbers. However, Scottrade affirmed their doubt that this specific data had been exploited or stolen.
The fraud was confirmed on a Friday, the company admitted that unidentified cybercriminals had successfully breached its computer network. Surprisingly, the company was oblivious to the data theft until the FBI brought it to their attention in August.
