Three Affordable Retailers for Premium Home Decor

The right decorative pieces can completely transform the feel of a room in your home. During my childhood, my mother didn’t care much for decor. Our home was characterized by white walls reflecting our inability to own our own place, clutter, and a mismatched collection of random items. As such, our house didn’t radiate warmth or invite one to spend much time in it.

However, my personal experiences have been quite different. Each room of my house now exudes individuality and warmth. My house has been transformed into a place where I actually enjoy spending my time.

Of course, it’s simple to select decorative pieces that appeal to me from catalogs and credit card payments. But, my mission was to decorate my home in the most cost-efficient way – I also engaged in DIY woodworking on my beloved router table. My intention was to make my home appear upscale without splurging.

If you’re in the same boat, here are three places to seek posh yet affordable decor.

FURNITURE STORES:

While exploring furniture stores, one cannot ignore the exorbitant prices of their accessories. Recently, on our visit to Ashley’s Furniture Store in search of a new couch and dining room set, we experienced this firsthand.

Every piece of furniture was complemented by an upgrade package to supposedly save customers money. The high costs of these accessories were shocking. It seemed absurd to spend hundreds of dollars on items like lamps or rugs which could be found at much more reasonable prices at places like Target or Walmart.

Luckily, we discovered a clearance section at the back of the store. Items here were heavily discounted, as they either had minor defects or the showroom was trying to clear space.

One particular item I bought was a decorative tripod. Initially priced at $99, I found it in the clearance section missing its hurricane vase, and priced at just $5.99. A craft store substitute and some glue will recreate the same effect for less than $10.

CRAFT STORES:

Although I don’t have a knack for crafts, I’ve come to realize that craft stores such as Joann’s, Michael’s, and Hobby Lobby offer great home accessories. They frequently have 40-60% off sales, and even without the discounts, it’s easy to find 40-50% off coupons online. I’ve discovered that these stores are especially good for finding unique and charming picture frames.

THRIFT STORES AND GARAGE SALES:

While thrift stores and garage sales can be hit or miss, they are often treasure troves for budget decor if you enjoy the thrill of the hunt. The trick to shopping here is to envision the potential of each item.

For instance, a coat of black spray paint can modernize an outdated wooden candlestick, and tacky chairs can be revived with a fresh coat of paint and new upholstery.

Even if you’re not an expert DIYer, you can still give new life to old pieces and integrate them into your home decor very well.

So how do you economize while keeping your home decor fashionable?
