The U.S. Navy recently unveiled a new policy allowing female sailors and Marines to avail up to 18 weeks of paid leave within a year of their child’s birth. This change, announced by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus on Thursday, is motivated by a drive to keep skilled women who wish to start a family within the service.
Mabus expressed, “Offering substantial maternity leave during the most crucial period is one of the most effective ways to back the women who dedicate their service to our country.” He further added, “This flexibility is not just an investment in our personnel and services, but also a preventive measure against losing proficient members of our military.”
